We all know that your joints move and your muscles contract and stretch.

But did you know that your nerve tissue also needs to move freely?

Nerves, like some roads, take a winding path through the body. They can travel around sharp corners of bones, such as the elbow, or they can pass through tight spaces, such as at the wrist. As these nerves travel along their path through the body and pass by bones, discs, muscles, blood vessels, and other tissue layers on their route, they can be trapped, irritated, or possibly even compressed by the tissues they pass.

The messages being passed along nerves can be increased or decreased, stopped, or changed by the surrounding tissues acting on them. Symptoms such as pins and needles, numbness, shooting pain, burning pain, and pain at a site further away from the actual cause of the injury, can all be due to problems with the nerves.

Neurodynamics is a method of conservative treatment of neural tissue.

The rationale for using neurodynamics in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions is based on years of studies that point to the high effectiveness of neurodynamic procedures.

Neuromobilization procedures consist of targeting and treating a specific neural tissue that has been irritated due to compression of surrounding tissues, or because it is not able to stretch through its path properly. Once the irritated tissue is identified through a neurological evaluation, neuromobilization techniques are performed that consist of specific movements that isolate the desired tissue to relieve compression and provide unimpeded movement.

Appropriate use of neuro mobilization procedures depends on excellent knowledge and training.

What Conditions Commonly Respond Well to Neurodynamic Treatment?

Plantar Fasciitis
Sciatica
Tennis Elbow
Golfer's Elbow
Hamstring Stiffness
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Shoulder Pain
Neck Pain
Knee Pain

It takes careful clinical reasoning and thorough assessment to determine where the nerve is irritated along its full path, and what tissue is at fault.

E3 Chiropractic + Wellness in Saskatoon has one of the few Chiropractors in Saskatchewan trained in Neurodynamics! A Neurodynamics assessment is part of every new patient exam to ensure that we find the root cause of your pain.
