McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT) is an approach that is trusted and used by clinicians and patients all over the world.

Most pain is affected by everyday activities, movements, and postures.  Some of these activities and postures can aggravate the pain, and some may bring relief. Using a systematic evaluation, we can determine that certain movements and postures can often provide a strategy for patients to control or eliminate their own pain and restore their function.

What Does MDT Involve?

This technique begins with your clinician taking a detailed history of your symptoms and how they behave. You will be asked to carefully perform certain movements. How your symptoms and range of motion change with these movements provide your clinician with information that is used to understand the nature of your injury.

Using information from the assessment, your clinician will provide a strategy for you to control or eliminate your pain and restore function.

By learning how to self-treat the current problem, hopefully, you will gain some insight into how to minimize the risk of recurrence. You should also be able to self-treat symptoms if they recur, putting you in control of your treatment safely and effectively.
